Baltimore County Fire Department
Baltimore County is located in central Maryland and surrounds the city of
Baltimore on three sides. Extending from the Chesapeake Bay in the southeast to
Pennsylvania in the north. Baltimore County covers an area of 610 square miles
and has a population of over 754,000. Baltimore County covers a wide spectrum,
from heavy industrial areas to suburban residential areas and farmland.
Fire, rescue, and emergency medical services are provided by the Baltimore
County Fire Department. The Baltimore County Fire Department is a combination
department staffed by over 1,000 career personnel and 2,000 volunteer personnel.
Apparatus in the Emergency Operations division include 88 engine companies; 27
career and 61 volunteer, 13 truck companies; 7 career and 6 volunteer, and 3
tower ladders. Ten of these engine companies are advanced life support capable,
and are strategically located throughout Baltimore County. Volunteer companies
also operate the county's 9 heavy rescue squads.
A career Advanced Tactical Rescue team, and one volunteer company, provides
underwater rescue/recovery and technical rescue. The department also operates
one hazardous materials unit and three hazardous materials support satellite
units.
The Baltimore County Fire Department takes great pride in both its rich history
and its progressive future, while constantly striving to increase the efficiency
and quality of service to the citizens of Baltimore County.
