Differing in design and appearance from previous Seagrave pumpers of recent
years, the Commander II has a slightly longer and roomier cab configuration and
has an enhanced HVAC system. It is equipped with a Detroit Diesel series 60
engine, a Waterous 1000 gpm pump and a 500 gallon water tank. After delivery,
the apparatus was retrofitted with several large metal boxes over the cab and
sides to carry the additional equipment used by a squad. This was done by the
Pumper Section of the FDNY Fleet Services Division, who also retrofitted the
apparatus with different style warning lights. The most unusual feature of this
particular apparatus are the large patriotic murals painted on the cabinet areas
on both sides of the vehicle. This is the only FDNY unit to have this
distinctive look. It differs from the murals on the side of the 2001 Seagrave
Rearmount Aerial of FDNY Ladder 10. This was part of the donation from Seagrave,
with replacement panels available in case of damage to the murals.
