Forest City Fire Department

The Forest City Fire Department was established on April 6, 1897 with 26 members. There equipment back then was a two wheeled horse drawn cart and a few hundred feet of hose, a nice four wheeled hook and ladder wagon equipped with a good set of ladders, picks, axes and other small items. As the years went by they bought more hose and a 60 gallon steel drum that they mounted on a two wheel hand cart which was the departments first chemical outfit.

In 1914 the city purchased the first motor driven chemical outfit. Then in 1923 the city purchased a Waterous pumper (which is still in operation today). Over the years there have been many other trucks that have been purchased. In 2005 the department purchased Pierce Dash top mount pumper.

The Forest City Fire Department has 21 dedicated members, all are Fire Fighter 1 certified and 80% Fire Fighter 2 certified. The department is an all volunteer group. The department has veterans and rookies that all work very well together.
