Oldest, and Bravest
Oceanic Hook & Ladder Co. 1 is New York City's oldest active volunteer fire
company. Established in 1881, Oceanic is located on the west shore of Staten
Island in the community of Travis. This truck, purchased in 1992, originally
served as the F.D.N.Y. caisson truck used to carry fallen firefighters. It was
used as a training vehicle from 1992 until being called back into service after
the tragic events of September 11, 2001 to help honor the many heroes that died
that day.
